Occurrence:
I receive the following error when attempting to process a FEFLOW 3D Grid.
Error in FEFLOW 3D Grid Simulation.
Geological Model does not enclose source FEFLOW Grid
Please ensure that the Geological Model completely encloses the source FEFLOW Grid.
Resolution:
The resolution for this issue is to increase the boundary extents of the Geological Model used in the 3D FEFLOW Simulation so that it completely encloses the 2D FEFLOW Simulation on which the 3D Simulation is based. This is required so that the gridding of the 3D Simulation can be determined correctly.
Root Cause:
This error is caused when the Geological Model that is used to generate the gridding for the FEFLOW 3D Simulation does not fully enclose the FEFLOW 2D Simulation being used as an input to the 3D Grid. The screenshot below shows an example of this where the extents of the Geological Model (red) do not enclose the FEFLOW 2D grid (blue) when seen in plan view.
Because of this, when creating the 3D grid, the vertical extents of the grid cells cannot be determined for any elements that extend outside of the Geological Model boundary and Leapfrog therefore cannot resolve the 3D Grid definition completely.
Notes:
This error can also occur as a result of changes to input surfaces related to compiler updates. More information on these changes can be found here.
