Objective:
I have imported a shapefile (*.shp) into a 3D Map but it has plotted at an elevation of 0. I would like to manually adjust the elevation to a set Z coordinate. OR I would like to drape the shapefile over a relief surface / topography grid.
Resolution:
When a shapefile (*.shp) is added to a 3D View, which doesn't have an existing plane, it will create a new plane and place the shapefile at a constant elevation of 0.
You can manually adjust the elevation of the plane so it draws at a set Z coordinate using the following steps:
- In the 3D Viewer select the plane that the shapefile was drawn on.
- You should see two tabs appear below the 3D Manager that read Attributes and Clipping, go to the Attributes tab
- Set the Z Offset parameter to the desired elevation.
This will draw the shapefile at the set elevation.
Alternatively, if you have a relief plane, topography grid for example, you can drape your shapefile over the grid using the following steps:
- In the 3D Viewer select the plane that the shapefile was drawn on.
- You should see two tabs appear below the 3D Manager that read Attributes and Clipping, go to the Attributes tab
- Select a grid file for the Relief grid parameter using the dropdown menu.
