Objective:
Change the projection of a DXF file in Oasis montaj or Target.
Resolution:
To create a new DXF file with a different projection than the original DXF:
- Make a projected map the active window (in the projection you would like to reproject the DXF to).
- Map menu > Import > AutoCAD DXF File.
- In the new import dialog box select your DXF file and click on Modify button to set the original coordinate system of the DFX file. After setting the coordinate system click OK. The imported DXF group will be re-projected on-the-fly to the same coordinate system as the current map.
- Select the imported DXF group in the View/Group Manager Tool.
- Map menu > Export > set the Output Format to DXF AutoCAD (*.dxf).
- Under Region to Export, choose Selection > OK.
The output DXF file will now be in the same coordinate system as the map it was exported from.
Notes:
Oasis montaj and Target do not have a function that can georeference or change the projection of a DXF file.
DXF files by nature do not contain projection information; they only contain coordinate values. If you are going to display a DXF into an existing Geosoft Map:
- The DXF and the existing map should be in the same coordinate system.
- Or, you must correctly specify the projection of the DXF when importing it to the map. The file will be reprojected on-the-fly.
