Symptom:
When exporting a 3D View in Oasis montaj to a 3D PDF, the voxels are not display in the resulting 3D PDF.
Resolution:
Unfortunately, the Export to 3D PDF does not support voxels.
You can however, use the new Create Animation from Snapshot feature introduced in the 3D View instead to negate the limitations and constraints of the PDF format while providing increased control of the content, display options, and resolution. The feature creates an animated sequence (or movie) based on selected snapshots associated with the current 3D View. The animated sequence can be saved to a high quality movie format such as MP4 or WMV for sharing purposes.
- Tools and Settings > Create 3D Snap Shot
- Tools and Settings > Create Animation from Snapshots
Alternatively, you can display the 3D Map to a 2D map and save the 2D map as an image file.
- Take a moment to setup and position the 3D Viewer to highlight the data you would like to emphasize and close the 3D Viewer.
- On a new or existing 2D map.
- With the 2D map selected display the 3D View > Display 3D View on Current Map.
- Export the 2D Map to an image format by going to Map > Export.
- Change the Output Format to an image type and press OK.
NOTE: you can export to a static PDF using this workflow, but it will not be interactive as is the case with 3D PDF.
Root Cause:
Limitation of the application. Seequent uses a 3rd party SDK to generate 3D PDFs when exporting objects from a 3D View. The 3D PDF generator technology requires a real geometry (lines, polylines and triangles) to be provided. The new voxel rendering engine introduced in 9.3 is based on a direct volume rendering using a modification of a volume ray casting technique with a linearly interpolated data. In conjunction with the update of the voxel storage file and the creation of the project cache file voxel cells are no longer built and stored as a set of triangles. Therefore there is no real geometry to provide the 3D PDF generator.
