Occurrence:
I have recently installed Geosoft Desktop Applications and when I launch the application, I am greeted with this error message. I cannot launch the application.
Unable to open "C\:Users\%USER%\Documents\Geosoft\Desktop Applications 9\CSV\configured_services.csv" for mode "WriteOnly" because (Access is denied). Directory or file not found, unreadable or may already be open.
Resolution:
There are three known workflows that can resolve this issue:
1) Ensure with your IT department that you have permissions to write to the 'C\:Users' folder.
2) Disable your antivirus and reattempt the installation:
- Uninstall Geosoft Desktop Applications through your control panel
- Delete the following folders:
C:\Program Files\Geosoft\Desktop Applications 9
C:\Program Files (x86)\Geosoft\Desktop Applications 9
- Disable your antivirus
- Install Geosoft Desktop Application
3) Work through Option 2 of this article.
Root Cause
This issue likely occurs due to:
- A user does not have permissions to write to the 'C\:Users' folder.
- A users antivirus is blocking the necessary files for running the application from being wrote to the users 'C\:Users' folder when being installed.
- The user has Protected Folders in their Controlled Folder Access in Windows Defender Security Center.
