With the latest Leapfrog release we made some changes to how Viewer installs, interacts and signs in.
Here are some frequently asked questions in relation to Viewer:
Leapfrog Viewer used to have its own installer; what happened to it?
With the latest release of the Leapfrog suite, we have bundled Leapfrog Viewer in with Leapfrog Geo/Works/Geothermal so everything is contained with a single installer. Leapfrog Viewer (single installer) was previously a separate codebase to Leapfrog as a whole; therefore any improvements in Leapfrog did not translate into Viewer as a default. Currently it is planned to greatly improve the overall visualisation of the product – a step that meant that Viewer and Leapfrog needed to be merged into one codebase.
Why am I being asked to sign in; I thought it was free?
With the move to ID-based licensing and the greater Seequent Ecosystem, the need to have all Seequent products accessed via ID was one not only of future planning for functionality, but also one of security. Secure data is of the utmost importance, and accessing your Scene files with a Seequent ID is an easy way to enhance security.
You can create a Seequent ID for free, and sign in to view LF Scene (Viewer) files, for free, on any computer. It only takes a few seconds to sign in so it should not impact your workflow significantly. Once the email and sign-in is set-up the sign in should not take a long time to access files. You can also check out up to 30 days so you will not be prompted to sign in for that period.
How do I use Viewer and Geo/Works/Geothermal at the same time now?
You will see a new tab in Leapfrog now for "Scene Files". This tab has replaced the standalone Viewer functionality.
This means that you can create + save Scenes, and view them in one product before sending them to colleagues. Recipients* can then open Leapfrog and use the Scene Files tab to see what has been shared. (*If the recipient does not have a Geo, Works, or Geothermal licence, the software will open with Viewer-only capabilities.)
This means you can open as many scenes as you wish whilst modelling, without having to run the older Viewer package concurrently. Overall this saves time and improves the experience.
To view existing Scenes while modeling in Leapfrog, follow these steps:
- Save a Scene in Leapfrog and Export it
- Without needing to close your Leapfrog project, select the Leapfrog Geo Main Menu > Open > Open Scene
- Alternatively you can simply click over to the "Scene View" tab
- Navigate to the Viewer file
- Open and adjust as needed
- You can move your tabs to separate windows to improve viewing
How do I switch back and forth between Leapfrog Geo and Leapfrog Viewer?
This no longer necessary as they are hosted in the same installer. You will simply need to switch to the Scenes tab.
Offline Access of Leapfrog Viewer
When you initially open Leapfrog, you are requiring to sign in the application with internet access. Once signed in, your licence remains valid until you release the seat or it expires. Then you need to reconnect to obtain a new licence. If you check out the Viewer for 30 days, you will not need to sign in again for 30 days.
If you intend to head to a remote site, it is a good idea to check out the maximum number of days while you still have internet connectivity. If you have an active Geo/Works/Geothermal licence, the implications are the same: ensure you check out ample time on the licence before heading remotely.
Compatibility
Please note that, as with any other Leapfrog commercial products, a Scene file created in a newer version cannot be opened in an older version. For more information, see this article.
