Objective:
I'm making multiple grids and I want them all to have the same colours for given values. I also want the colour legend bars to be identical.
Resolution:
To create a colour zone file based on up to 5 existing grids:
- From the Grid and Image Menu click Display on Grid and select Create Colour Zone File.
- Enter a name for the Output colour zone file.
- Specify up to 5 grids to be used to create a colour zone file.
- Specify the Contour interval.
- Select a Colour table file that has the colour range you want.
- Click OK to create a colour zone file using values from the grids you specified.
To display grids with the zone file you created:
- From the Grid and Image menu select Display on grid and click Grid.
- For Grid name, browse to the grid you would like to display.
- For Colours, click on the displayed colour bar and change the category to browse.
- Change the Files of Type to Colour Zones (*.zon).
- Ensure Colour method is set to the same option that was used when creating the colour zone file.
- Click New Map or Current Map depending on where you would like the grid to be displayed.
To create a colour zone file based on a single grid:
- With the grid displayed on a map, double-click the grid group in the View/Group Manager Tool to open the Colour Tool.
- Choose the Transform method you wish to use.
- Once the desired colouring scheme is achieved, this can be saved as a .zon file by clicking on the Save to file icon (Save as type Color Zones (*.zon)).
- Open this .zon file in a text editor and you can edit the values that will be associated with each colour level then save your edits.
- Use the above "To display grids with the zone file..." steps to display a grid with this .zon file or while still in the colour tool click the Load from File button and select the zone file.
Notes:
- Colour legend bars are based on the grids from which they are created. In order to change/set the colour legend bar, you must first set the grid colouring scheme as described above.
