Error: "The code execution cannot proceed because VCRUNTIME140_1.dll was not found. Reinstalling the program may fix this problem."

Occurrence:

When installing Leapfrog Geo I get the following error: 

Leapfrog.exe - System Error:
The code execution cannot proceed because VCRUNTIME140_1.dll was not found. Reinstalling the program may fix this problem.

 

Resolution:

The .dll mentioned in the error is associated with Windows Visual C++,   which Leapfrog Geo requires to run.  In the past, a few users have reported issues with this DLL after updating Windows.  

Try the following:

  1. Go to this page https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/2977003/the-latest-supported-visual-c-downloads and download and install the latest version of Visual C++. 
  2. Once Windows Visual C++ is installed, ensure there are no pending or partially completed Windows updates for the PC/laptop as these can also cause problems.

Once you have completed the above steps, try to install Leapfrog Geo. 

 

Root Cause:
A problem with Windows Visual C++ is causing the installation to fail.  Windows Visual C++ is a Microsoft system file that Leapfrog Geo requires to operate. 

 

Notes:

We have had reports of Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio 2019 also being required, if you're unsure which of the installers to use, ask your IT Dept for assistance.
