Summary
The HASP drivers currently packaged with Leapfrog applications are causing a Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) error when installed on the Windows 10 version 2004 update. Upgrading to the latest version of the HASP driver (8.11) from Gemalto resolves the issue.
Affected Versions
Leapfrog Geo versions 4.4.0 - 5.1.1
Leapfrog Geothermal versions 3.7.0 - 4.1.1
Symptoms
Installing Leapfrog (Geo or Geothermal) on a PC with Windows 10 version 2004 installed causes a BSOD error to occur. The error also occurs when upgrading a PC to Windows 10 version 2004 with Leapfrog already installed on the PC. The failing module will be listed as 'aksfridge.sys'. If the dongle remains in the PC then the BSOD error will continue to occur each time the PC is restarted.
Detail
The cause of the error is the HASP driver currently bundled with Leapfrog applications which is used for dongle based licencing. This HASP driver (version 7.81) is incompatible with the Windows 10 version 2004 update.
Further information from Microsoft on this issue can be found here.
Workaround
To prevent the error from occurring, the HASP driver on the PC needs to be updated to the latest version available from Gemalto (8.11). The driver can be downloaded from the following location:
Once the HASP driver has been updated the PC can be updated to Windows 10 version 2004 and Leapfrog can be installed without issue.
Solution
Future versions of the Leapfrog applications will include an updated version of the HASP drivers (8.11 or newer) which will prevent the issue from occurring during install.
