Error: "Error calculating cell size and padding for mesh file *.msh". Followed by: "Error importing UBC MSH file *** on line 1:Error reading value NLX".

Occurrence:

This following error message is displayed when attempting to convert UBC DCIP2D conductivity and chargeability file into Geosoft Grid files by going to Map > Import >UBC DCINV2D/IPINV2D Files:

Error calculating cell size and padding for mesh file *.msh

Followed by

Error importing UBC MSH file *** on line 1:Error reading value NLX

 

Resolution:

Instead of using the "Import UBC DCINV2D/IPINV2D Files" function, try using the voxel conversion tools to import the data:

  1. Go to Voxel > Conversions > UBC to Voxel
  2. Enter a name for the voxel file that will be created.
  3. For Model file, browse to and select {filename}.res.
  4. For MSH header file, browse to and select {filename}.msh.
  5. Open {filename}.res in a text editor to obtain the dummy value.
    It may look something like 1.E+010.
  6. Enter this as the Value to interpret as dummy.
  7. The data will open in the Voxel Viewer which is Read Only. Close this window. 
  8. In the 3D Viewer > Add to 3D menu > Voxel > browse to the file that was created through the import.
